The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has raised alarm that the non-adherence of Nigerians to the COVID-19 safety guidelines is affecting efforts meshed towards avoiding the third wave of COVID-19 in the country.

The NCDC Director-General, Dr Chikwe Iheakweazu, grieved that while the government is strengthening the country's response capacity, Nigerians were not obeying as expected to the required measures in place to prevent the third wave.

We know from the reports in other countries that a large outbreak can quickly affect the public health system. So, we demand that all Nigerians take collective concern in preventing the COVID-19 third wave in our country. Please wash your hands regularly, wear a face mask properly in public settings and practice physically.

In order to prevent the use of fake COVID-19 results, NCDC introduced a result verification platform for travellers together with Port Health Services and other relevant agencies. With this platform, it is easier to spot fake COVID-19 PCR test results.

Strict enforcement is also taking place at all international airports across the country.
